Field trials are administered and controlled by NZGTA under authority delegated by the NZ Kennel Club. The NZGTA was established in 1936 (as the NZKC Gundog Trial Executive) and its objectives are to promote and foster the conduct of gun dog trials throughout the country. The NZGTA makes rules and regulations, sets standards, appoints judges and issues challenges and Field Trial titles, but they do not register dogs or litters (done by the NZKC). A National, and both a North and a South Island Championship are run on behalf of the NZGTA each year.
Membership of the NZGTA is through membership of affiliated clubs, who elect an executive committee annually to run the Association’s affairs. The Executive consists of a President, three members from each Island and a Secretary/Treasurer.
