The NZGTA was established in 1935 (as the Dominion Gun Dog Trial Association) and its objectives are to promote and foster the conduct of gun dog trials throughout the country. The NZGTA makes rules and regulations, sets standards, appoints judges and issues challenges and Field Trial titles, but they do not register dogs or litters (Dogs NZ register dogs and litters). National, and both a North and a South Island Championship are run on behalf of the NZGTA each year.
Membership of the NZGTA is through membership of NZGTA Affiliated Gundog Clubs, who elect an executive committee annually to run the Association’s affairs. The Executive consists of a President, three executive members from each Island and a Secretary/Treasurer.
